CHS Athletic Boosters

The meeting was called to order at 7:07 pm.

In attendance: Dave Kawamoto, Mike West, Nadia Basilio, Margaret Headrick, Judy Hill, Brenda Lopes, Ian Oglesby, Paul Armstrong, Bob Riland, Lisa Riland, Nancy Boyle.

Minutes from the January 8th   meeting were approved. Motion made by Bob Riland and seconded by Lisa Riland.

Student Report:  Athletes of the Month for the month of December were  Victoria Wu ,  (basketball), and Eric Heslin,  (basketball).  Athletes for the month of January were Katie Boyle, (soccer), and Thorin Duffin, (soccer).
    Winter Sports Awards Night will be held on March 8th at 7 pm, in the auditorium.

Treasurer’s Report: Current balance is $13,030.93.  $6000 of this amount is already allocated.   The Boosters received a donation of $1000 from one family during the past month.  Dave will send a thank-you note. Two new memberships were also received.  Over $1000 income from the barbecue at the girls’ night soccer game on February 2nd.   The Boosters will try to do more of these types of events in the future, perhaps for swimming, baseball, or track.

Athletic Report: The varsity wrestling team finished 3rd in the DeAnza league.  Three wrestlers were league champions, and Aris Harutyunyan was selected as an outstanding wrestler at the league meet. Seven wrestlers will go on to the CCS tournament.  
Boys’ Basketball is tied for second place in the league, and will start the CCS tournament in one week.  
The Athletic Directors are trying to get the athletic schedules posted on the CHS website.

Golf Tournament: Lisa Riland researched holding the tournament at Santa Clara, San Jose Municipal, and Deep Cliff golf courses. Information was obtained regarding prices and date availability at each.  After a discussion it was decided to look into holding the tournament at Deep Cliff the week after school gets out in June.  

The Boosters will provide cake and punch for the Awards night on March 8th.

Scholarship essays will be due the first Friday in May. Information about the Athletic Boosters’ scholarship has been given to personnel in the Career Center.

A baseball barbecue will be held on February 24th at 11:30 am, during the scrimmage with St Lawrence Academy.

Additional fundraising ideas were briefly discussed and the discussion will be continued at the next meeting, to be held on March 12th.
